CISAC, in its role as the ISO-appointed international agency
for the International Standard Musical Work Code (ISWC), will
launch the 19th of October ISWC-Net a network of information
about musical works. The launch take place during the 2004 CISAC
World Congress in Seoul, South Korea..
With the opening of ISWC-Net at www.iswc.org, the public
can now obtain key information such as title, author, and
composer of musical works on the ISWC network.
Direct access
on
From songs to symphonies and jingles, ISWC-Net provides access
to information about millions of musical works-information
key in helping authors' societies track the royalties due
to authors, composers and publishers. This information is
accessed via the ISWC number, a unique identification number
assigned to each musical work. This number functions in the
same way that the ISBN identifies books, and the ISAN identifies
audiovisual works.
The result of many years of collaboration between ISWC IA
and its member societies, ISWC-Net consists of authors' societies
centralized and decentralized databases such as the WID, LatinNet,
and the FastTrack members, among others. The ISWC International
Agency, which is managed by the CISAC headquarters in Paris,
provides its 32 authorized ISWC agencies with series of numbers
that they allocate to musical works and then make available
on the ISWC network. The goal is to see all musical works
allotted an ISWC number.
